Everyone seems to know Arthur Conan Doyle’s Great Detective – he is archetypal, beloved, canonical. In this talk I discuss whether it is in fact possible to know Sherlock Holmes and posit that the very features that popularised him, i.e. seriality, transmediality, and palimpsestousness, have diluted and dismantled the­ character, reducing him to a few omnipresent signifiers.
